Undo & Redo
Media Sort records every sorting action (moves, copies, renames, and deletions) in a history stack, allowing you to undo mistakes instantly and redo actions you change your mind about.
Undoing and re-doing file move operations safely
Keyboard Shortcuts
Section titled “Keyboard Shortcuts”| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Q | Undo the last action |
| E | Redo the previously undone action |
What Can Be Undone
Section titled “What Can Be Undone”The following actions are reversible:
- Move: the file is moved back to its original location
- Copy: the copied file is deleted from the destination
- Rename: the file is renamed back to its original name
- Delete: the file is restored from the system trash to its original location
How Deletions Work
Section titled “How Deletions Work”When you delete a file (by pressing Down), it is not permanently removed from disk. Instead, it is moved to your operating system’s native trash facility:
- Windows: Windows Recycle Bin (via native shell API)
- macOS: Trash folder (via Cocoa
NSFileManager) - Linux: Desktop Trash (Freedesktop.org trash specification)
Because the file remains in the system trash, undoing a deletion programmatically restores it to its exact original path.
History Lifecycle
Section titled “History Lifecycle”- While the app is running, all actions remain in the undo/redo stack and can be reversed at any time. There is no fixed limit on history depth.
- When you exit the app, the history stack is cleared. Any delete actions that were in the undo stack are finalized. You can no longer undo them through Media Sort.
- After exit, deleted files still exist in your system trash and can be manually restored using your operating system’s file manager.
Limitations
Section titled “Limitations”- Actions that involved files which were later modified or moved outside of Media Sort may fail to undo correctly. In such cases the action is skipped and a notification is shown.
- File system watcher events (files added, modified, or deleted by external programs) are not tracked in the undo history.
