Media Sort is designed to work entirely on your local machine. Your files, settings, and browsing history never leave your computer.

All application data is stored locally on your device:

  • Settings: Stored in config.toml in your OS configuration directory (~/.config/media-sort/ on Linux, ~/Library/Application Support/media-sort/ on macOS, %APPDATA%\media-sort\ on Windows).
  • File access: Media Sort reads media files from directories you explicitly open. File contents are read for metadata extraction, thumbnail generation, and playback. No file data is uploaded or transmitted.
  • History: The undo/redo history is kept only in memory while the application is running. The last-opened folder path is stored in config.toml. Neither is sent anywhere.

Media Sort does not include any telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, or usage tracking. There are no third-party analytics SDKs, no event logging services, and no data collection of any kind.

Media Sort makes network requests in only one scenario:

  • Update checks (optional, enabled by default): When Check for updates on startup is enabled in settings, the application contacts the GitHub Releases API (api.github.com) to check for new versions. This request is a standard HTTPS GET to a public API endpoint. No personal information, file data, or usage statistics are included in the request.

You can disable update checks in the Settings dialog at any time.
